We have exciting developments planned for next year and GSNETX picked a perfect sunny day to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the STEM Center of Excellence at Camp Whispering Cedars. At the site of what will soon be the Rees-Jones Foundation Welcome Center and the Hoglund Family Girl Program Center, council board members and supporters were on hand jumpstart the next chapter of our vision in creating fun, STEM opportunities for Girl Scouts across northeast Texas.
The final project won’t be complete for a few more months, but here’s what your Girl Scout can look forward to at the STEM Center of Excellence when it opens April 8-9, 2016!
Nature Trail – A half-mile trail featuring a gathering area and interactive outdoor curriculum
New Ropes Course – She’ll have her pick at a high ropes course, low ropes course and fun team-building activities
Energy In Motion Zone – Designed with five outdoor physics activities, a human sundial, parabolic dishes and more!
Music Garden – Features different instruments and signage that focuses on the science of sound and music in nature
Texas Trees Trail – Developed by the Texas Trees Foundation and features QR codes and activities throughout
Sports Field – A grassy field for soccer or volleyball, a Ga-ga ball pit and storage for sports and field equipment
Permanent Archery Range – Two ranges that feature a 100′ target wall and aggregate field with 20 targets
Geology Rocks Trail – Girls will explore different fossils, test soil and conduct renewable energy experiments
