In 1920, just seven years after Girl Scouts was founded, women were given the right to vote in the United States. Nearly a century since that landmark vote, women have grown more courageous against the status quo, influencing others everywhere to make changes. Today, their bravery still echoes around the world for the benefit of women everywhere.
Now it’s your turn! Starting next fall, four new outdoor badges will be offered to Girl Scouts and we need your help deciding the best ones! The voting period will be split into three time blocks where Scouts can vote on different categories:
October 31 – November 30: Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors will vote on the content area they are interested in within the Outdoor Category. The choices are Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Environment or Outdoor Survival.
December 1 – December 31: After a number of Girls decide on their favorite content, they’ll vote on the actual badge topic (for example, Hiking, Camping, Trail Blazing, etc.) based on their grade level in the coming year.
March 12, 2015: The four Outdoor badges will be announced and Girl Scouts can look forward to more adventures outdoors! Girls can vote as many times as they want.
And while we love and appreciate how passionate our volunteers and parents are about this exciting event, we only encourage that you bring more Girl Scouts to the polls.
Daisies and Ambassadors, we haven’t forgotten about you! We know how dedicated you are to your Girl Scout experience and we’re working hard to ensure that even more WOW moments will happen for you. Be on the lookout for new information about what you can expect in the near future!
There’s always more to learn and love about the great outdoors. Cast your vote today and you could influence the experience of your sister Scouts tomorrow!
