Girl Scout Juniors Petition the City of Dallas

For their Girl Scout Bronze Award project, the fifth-grade Girl Scout Juniors from St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic School petitioned the City of Dallas for a flashing speed limit sign to be placed on Oak Lawn Avenue in front of Holy Trinity Catholic School and Church. The Girl Scouts from Troop 3158 surveyed the area, walked the neighborhood, and met with the principal of Holy Trinity School to assess the need. The results of the traffic study showed that cars were traveling at high speeds around a blind curve near the school and church. The Girl Scouts created an online petition, interfaced with the church community to obtain live signatures, and presented their findings to the city traffic office. As a result of their hard work, a flashing school zone sign has been added to the street.
