Last month Service Unit 405 (Carrollton) hosted “Boot Camp”, a simulated day of camp for new or nervous campers.
The attending Girl Scouts spent a full 8-hour day completing camp activities and learning camp skills at activity stations, which were each staffed by 10 Girl Scout Adult Volunteers and 12 Girl Scouts.
- Packing For Camp
- Tent Building
- Fire Building
- Ropes and Lashing
- Songs and Skits
- First Aid
A midday break was included for a picnic style lunch and SWAPS. Attending Girl Scout Daisies were able to complete two petals, Brownies completed their Hiking Badge, and Cadettes earned their Trailblazer and Junior Camper!
“Boot Camp was created as a bridge activity for troops who want to attend Service Unit Camp in the fall but aren’t experienced. By “tasting” the full Saturday of camp without leaving town or spending the night, troop leaders and parents were able to gauge which Girl Scouts are ready for the real thing!” ~Service Unit 405
