The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest entrepreneurial program in the world which allows girls to earn profits to use towards funding various Girl Scout activities for their troop such as camping and service projects. The remaining funds are used to help provide program, training and camp facilities for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas’ members.
More importantly, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is focused toward teaching the girls five key skills: decision making, goal setting, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
A Dallas county troop of Daisies and Brownies, Troop 2328, describes cookie booth sales as a fun and rewarding experience.
“It’s fun! We get to sell cookies and work together like sisters,” 8 -year -old Brownie Samantha said.
Second year troop leader, Kim Davis enjoys seeing the girls working together and appreciates them volunteering their time to help the troop reach their overall cookie goal. She said it is a wonderful experience for all involved, and the girls really get to work on their people skills.
“Booth sales are teaching the girls how to confidently speak to customers because the girls are normally really shy,” Davis said.
There’s more to the annual cookie sale than the tasty treats being offered. Davis said once it ends she wants the girls to walk away with a better understanding of money, improved people skills and overall involvement in Girl Scouts.
“I want the girls to learn about different cultures, experience different experiences, to be confident and love themselves” continued Davis.
